Fireflies.ai Launches Voice Agents, Already Handling 40,000+ Calls

Fireflies.ai, the AI note-taking company that sits in millions of meetings a month, moved from transcribing calls to running them. Its new Voice Agents product went live on September 2, 2026, and had already conducted more than 40,000 conversations across 2,100-plus organizations in 97 countries by launch day.

What Fireflies announced

Fireflies.ai announced Voice Agents from San Francisco on September 2, 2026 -- a shift for a company best known for sitting silently on Zoom, Google Meet and phone calls to produce transcripts and summaries. Voice Agents instead take the call themselves. According to the company's press release, a Voice Agent "listens to what's actually said, follows up naturally, and speaks strictly from the knowledge base a team gives it" rather than improvising outside the material it's been trained on.

"For years, we've helped people capture and make sense of their calls," said Krish Ramineni, CEO and co-founder of Fireflies.ai. "Voice Agents is the next step... Fireflies can now have the conversation for you, then hand your team back exactly what mattered."

The product is aimed squarely at repetitive, high-volume calling work rather than open-ended conversation: candidate screening interviews, sales discovery and qualification calls, tier-one customer support, recurring manager and team check-ins, and outbound calls to collect customer testimonials. Every one of those calls still produces the recording, transcript and summary Fireflies has always generated -- the difference is that the AI now also runs the conversation, not just documents it.

How Voice Agents work in practice

Fireflies pairs Voice Agents with "AI Skills," a layer that turns the raw output of a call into a specific, ready-to-use document depending on what kind of call it was. A screening interview becomes a structured candidate scorecard; a sales discovery call becomes CRM-ready qualification notes; a support call becomes a formatted bug report or ticket; a testimonial call becomes a publishable customer quote or case study. The company says it has already produced more than 20 case studies this way. Those outputs are pushed automatically into whichever of Fireflies' 100-plus software integrations a team already uses, rather than requiring someone to review a transcript and manually re-type the useful parts into a CRM or applicant tracking system.

Deployment is deliberately low-friction: teams can spin up a Voice Agent from a template, build a custom one, or expose it as a shareable link, a QR code, or a step inside an existing applicant-tracking-system workflow. The agents support 30-plus languages and are available immediately across all Fireflies plans, priced on a usage-based credit model rather than the per-seat licensing or separate contracts common among enterprise contact-center vendors. Fireflies also states that Voice Agents carry the same enterprise-grade security posture as the rest of the platform, including private storage options, and that customer meeting and call data is never used to train its underlying AI models.

An early customer's numbers

The press release includes one named customer example: WebFX, a digital marketing agency, has run nearly 300 candidate screenings through a Voice Agent so far. "The biggest impact has been getting our time back," said Laura Passmore of WebFX's talent acquisition team. "We've been able to consider a broader range of candidates... about a third of our new hires started with a Voice Agent." Fireflies separately says its own recruiting team saved more than 800 hours by routing screening calls through the product internally before launch -- the kind of before-you-ship-it dogfooding evidence that's harder to dismiss than a vendor's own marketing claims.

The company behind the launch

Fireflies.ai is not a startup making its first product. Founded in 2016 and backed by Khosla Ventures and Canaan Partners since a 2021 Series A, the company has processed more than 7 billion minutes of meetings for over 20 million users across more than 1 million organizations, and says 75% of Fortune 500 companies use it in some capacity. It employs about 120 people across more than 20 countries and reached unicorn status on the strength of that meeting-transcription business before turning its attention to email (with an Email Assistant launched in mid-August 2026) and now to live voice calls.

Why it matters

What this means for the voice AI industry

πŸ“‡

Meeting-intelligence vendors are becoming voice-agent vendors

Fireflies built its business by passively transcribing calls its customers were already having. Shipping a product that actively conducts calls puts it in direct competition with dedicated voice-agent platforms it previously just sat alongside.

🎯

Narrow, repetitive calls are the near-term wedge

Rather than pitching a general-purpose phone agent, Fireflies targeted specific repeatable call types -- screening, discovery, tier-one support, check-ins -- where a knowledge-base-only agent is easiest to trust and easiest to prove ROI on quickly.

Usage-based pricing keeps spreading

Launching with credit-based pricing instead of per-seat licensing or a separate enterprise contract mirrors the pricing shift already underway across AI receptionist and voice-agent tools more broadly, small businesses included.
